Edith Eliot Rotch graduated magna cum laude from Radcliffe College, class of 1900. After leaving Radcliffe she became a champion skater and tennis player, winning the national women's doubles in 1909 and 1910. During World War I she began a long career in radio, serving as an instructor and examiner of radio operators. She was one of the first licensed women amateur radio operators in the country.
